In Xubuntu totem doesn't play sound in some videos

In Xubuntu totem fails to play sound in some avi and mkv files. VLC plays sound in this files just fine. Sometimes the sound is just absent, sometimes I can hear only the noise. The problem is quite random - the same file may work one day and dosn't work few hours later. If I opening it several times it may start working after few attempts (or not).
Probably this is the same problem as ​ #267441.
Unfortunately I have no idea how to provide details, which may help to localize the problem.
