Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Feisty on amd64. When I right-click on the rhythmbox icon on gnome-panel while playing a song and selecting to jump to the previous track, it jump to the beginning of the currently played song, which is right, but it cease playing. It is necessary, in full view, to jump one track forward and backward again to convince rhythmbox to start playing again.

Thank you for your bug. What version of the rhythmbox package do you use? Does it happen only with the panel icon or from the rhythmbox UI also? Do you have any error if you run rhythmbox from the command line? Could you try with the "-d" option and not errors printed then?

Rhythmbox ver. 0.9.8-0ubuntu2. After a deeper investigation it seems to be badly broken. There are problems even in rhythmbox UI. It behaves strangely (both with the panel icon and UI) sometimes it works correctly, sometimes playing the song is resumed after a few seconds and sometimes it doesn't work at all.
Running rhythmbox from console didn't reveal any errors but by running it with parameter -d I recorded some suspicious behavior. I enclose to screenshots showing the rhythmbox activity.

Could you get a log with "GST_DEBUG_NO_COLOR=1 GST_DEBUG=5 rhythmbox &>log" and attach it to the bug?

I recorded the log. During running rhythmbox, it worked once in the UI and failed with the panel icon.

I can reproduce this, but I think the problem is wider than just moving forward / backwards with the panel icon.

It happens to me all the time, where Rhythmbox will finish playing one song, move to the next and sit at 0:00. It thinks it is playing, but time does not move and sound is not heard. Skipping to other tracks sometimes kick starts it again.

quinnman, if you use the slider to skip to a second into the song when it is 'hung' does it start to play?

When I move the slider towards the end of the song, Rhythmbox plays the next track correctly.

Sebastien, do you think this is a rhythmbox or a gstreamer bug?

That looks like a gstreamer bug. Does it happen with totem also for you? I've forwarded the bug and the debug log upstream: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=416022

Hm. Nope, this doesn't happen with Totem. I played a whole (ogg) album with Totem and it was fine, playing the same album in Rhythmbox gets stuck every few songs.

I think this has gone away. quinnman, can you still reproduce this on an up to date feisty?

I still have a trouble with jumping to the beginning of a track but it's no longer so obtrusive. Now it jumps correctly to the beginning of song, starts playing, then it mutes for a few seconds and resumes playing again. Clearly, there's still some problem but now it's not so serious.

That seems like a different problem, can you please attach another GStreamer debug log?

I made 2 logs. In the first (log1.tar.bz2) playing resumed after a few seconds in the other (log2.tar.bz2) it did not.
