DVD playback corrupted, picture and sound bbroken up

Drive is OK. Plays Audio CDs just fine. Installed Ubuntu from it no problem.
Ubuntu 11.04
Expected DVD to play.
Instead it tried to play but just spat out bits of soundtrack and corrupted video.

I'll try VLC instead of Media Player
