Bug Description

When using and avi file plus a srt text file, totem can handle tags in subtitles by showing bold, italic and underline.
If instead the video is in MKV with embedded subtitles, it displays the tag.

I also made a test by extracting the subtitles and converting from MKV to AVI. The result confirms the bug

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. A new version of GStreamer is available on Maverick and we are wondering if this bug is still an issue for you with that version? Could you please test and comment back? Thanks in advance.

I can confirm that this is still an issue on Maverick. Tested with an MKV with embedded subtitles -- I get the italics tag instead of text displayed in italics. If I use mkvextract to extract the subtitles to an external .srt file, and then select this file in Totem, the subtitles display appropriately, with no tag visible.

Is my previous comment sufficient to remove the "incomplete" status? Or do you need more info? I'd be glad to help if that's the case.

Official support for Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" (desktop version), Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" and Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" has ended. If you can still reproduce this issue on Ubuntu 14.04 "Trusty Tahr" please use the ubuntu-bug command to file a new bug report so that we can get your system info and file versions, attach a screenshot, and if possible attach the movie that demonstrates the problem.
