Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

This new bug is directly linked to the gstreamer/totem bug that I've submitted here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/337391

Nautilus crashes when a MKV, WMV or MPEG-2/AVC file is accessed via right click -> Properties. The Properties window never appears and Nautilus restarts itself.

Selecting multiple files works!

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
Unfortunately, that stack trace is missing some elements that will help a lot to solve the problem, so it will be hard for the developers to fix that crash. Can you get us a stack trace with debugging symbols for gstreamer? Thanks in advance!

the video shows the crash what would be useful is the video you click on to crash nautilus

I didn't understand "what would be useful is the video you click on to crash nautilus" ... :) I thought that is in the video..

that video is the one showing the bug not the one triggering the crash right?

Ohhh.... sorry, my bad :) The above MP4 file triggers the crash too :)

reopening, I don't get the issue, perhaps you could open the bug on bugzilla.gnome.org too where the people writting the code will read it?

Damn :( OK, I will... in the mean time, I'll grab today's daily build to test there. I'll keep you updated!

Sebastien, sorry to inform you... but the bug is still present in today's build -> http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20090311/jaunty-desktop-amd64.iso

If you want to test it, grab the ISO image above, write it on a CD... when you arrive at the desktop... activate the missing repositories from Software Sources and then install ubuntu-restricted-extras and ffmpeg

apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras ffmpeg

Grab the WMV file I've attached, or the MP4 one, and see the GStreamer/Nautilus/Totem errors that I've described above for yourself.

thanks for testing but I'm running current jaunty on my machines so I don't need to download the daily CD, my box is a i386 one though and I don't get the bug on the example available there

I'm also running the current Jaunty on two machines... one with i386 and one with amd64... the bug is present in both :) Anyway, I've submitted the bug to the bugzilla.gnome.org... will wait and see what they think about it.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? May you please try the same with Karmic? Thanks in advance.
