totem shows red x's instead of video

Bug Description

I think this is a bug in gstreamer because if you can solve the problem by running gstreamer-properties and changing the video output plugin to "X Window System (No Xv)" instead of "Autodetect". The problem is that it comes configured incorrectly by default and the average user isn't going to be able to figure this out.
I'm using an Asus A6U laptop with a SIS 760 video card. SiS video cards seem to be a patter. Several other people discuss the problem here:

I tried running totem from the command-line with the "--debug" option, but there is no output.

thank you for your bug report. do you get the same issue in xine-ui when using xv for example? it's likely a video driver bug
