Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/914595/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Does this still occur in Ubuntu 12.04 "Precise Pangolin" updated to gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg 0.10.13-1 ? It contains a fix for https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=589361

Changed in ubuntu:
status: New → Incomplete
affects: ubuntu → gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg (Ubuntu)

Madbiologist - with all due respect, I'm not ready to upgrade past 11.04 Natty due to some of the issues I've heard with compatibility with what I'm currently running.

Can we try to fix the issue on Natty?

Fixing the issue on Natty is ultimately up to the SRU team, but might be possible. Firstly though, we need to identify the fix. A system upgrade should not be necessary. Can you test by booting the Ubuntu 12.04 alpha 1 LiveCD/DVD and then upgrade gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg to 0.10.13-1 and then try to convert a .flac file as you originally described?

Hi Madbiologist could you link me to the Ubuntu live CD for 12.04?

I'll try running the program on it and seeing if it will convert my
other stuff.

Ubuntu 12.04 alpha 1 can be downloaded from http://www.ubuntu.com/testing

The Ubuntu Desktop 32bit image is oversized; you can use either a DVD or USB instead of a CD. The 64bit image will fit on a CD.
