Can't access applications that minimize to the tray

If an application minimizes to the tray and does not display on the task bar, the application cannot be accessed anymore because tray icons are no longer displayed.

For example, an application called GSTM for managing SSH tunnels cannot be controlled because I have the option to hide it in the tray turned on. After upgrading to Natty I can't manage the application because it's supposed to display a system tray icon but there isn't one. The only way to close the application is to kill it using the task manager or command line.

This applies to the Unity desktop shell, not the /bin/dash shell.

thank you but that's not a bug, the systray is deprecated and application need to be ported to indicators, you can read those on the topic:
