Bug Description

Binary package hint: gstm

In Feisty, gstm's trayicon doesn't draw its background transparent when gnome-panel is set to transparent.
The same bug has been fixed in many other apps in dapper and edgy, there should be patches in C and python hanging around.

Ping ? This still happens under gutsy beta... Fix have already been published for many applets during previous release cycles. I know i shouldn't confirm my own bugs, is there anyone here using gstm too ??

It's still present in hardy. Looks pretty ugly :)

I can confirm this bug in Hardy today.

I thought it might be just that the tray icon had non-transparent backgrounds filled in, but I checked both the .png and .xpm files in Inkscape; they correctly have transparent pixels. Something deeper isn't right. Does the OP have any pointers to the patches that fixed this in other apps?

This still looks ugly in maverick and natty. Big gray box with lock in middle.
Was the fix supposed to enable transparency? I recall checking the icon and it was transparent but I expect the code doesn't draw it correctly. Maybe it's a small detail but for many (like me) it's like a needle in the eye every time the tray shows up. Hope a full fix can be found sometime as I really like this package.

A patch to fix this was uploaded under bug #729499 on 2011-03-04. A patched package is available in my ppa, tests ok in Maverick; I haven't upgrade to Natty yet.

I wouldn't hold your breath for an official fix though. If I remember correctly, the system tray is being depreciated and bugs like this won't have much priority once that happens.

Thank you Dallen, I've installed the package from your ppa and it is fixed now.
