Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

The MP4 container format supports a text:tx3g track containing an index to
chapters or sections of the audio/video track(s). Podcasts, audiobooks, movies
all use this to allow you to jump between sections of described content. It
would be great if totem / gstreamer could support using these.

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/chaptertracks.html

see http://www.radio538.nl/clublife/podcast.xml for an example MP4 containing a
text:tx3g chapter track.

there is no need to open upstream wishlist bugs on launchpad too if those are on bugzilla.gnome.org

Well, in my opinion, it makes the process of avoiding duplicates much securer, as launchpad's malone cleverly makes sure you're not reporting a duplicate before letting you file a new bug. This way people will find that it has already been reported both in ubuntu and upstream far more quickly and easily.

Sebastien Bacher (seb128) wrote :

not really true, user opening GNOME bugs will not look on launchpad first, people opening on launchpad don't check for duplicate usually and if somebody does open the bug there the situation will be identic to the current one, 1 bug about the issue, you should consider that a higher number of bugs makes the bug list harder to work on for everybody

4 years since this issue was first raised and still not implemented........
a part of the mp4 specification no, yet not implemented? am i missing something.

i use foobar2000 in wine to over come this, but hardly an ideal solution.
VLC supports it, but none of the gstreamer based audio apps like banshee, etc.
