Bug Description

I just upgraded from 8.10 to 9.04, but while I was using 8.10 I had the 2.6.24-21 kernel installed to avoid this problem. It would be nice to have a current kernel and let the automatic upgrades do their thing, but I need my camera to work!

sam@sb-64:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 9.04
Release: 9.04

current kernel version:

sam@sb-64:~$ uname -a
Linux sb-64 2.6.28-12-generic #43-Ubuntu SMP Fri May 1 19:31:32 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

end of dmesg after plugging in camera:

[ 1392.512054] usb 2-7: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 5
[ 1392.725599] usb 2-7: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
[ 1392.727938] gspca: probing 04fc:0561
[ 1393.291983] gspca: probe ok

output of lsusb:

sam@sb-64:~$ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0402:5668 ALi Corp.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

some stuff that appeared on dmesg while running cheese:

[ 1470.093539] gspca: usb_submit_urb [0] err -28
[ 1470.099352] ohci_hcd 0000:00:0b.0: leak ed ffff880037563230 (#81) state 2
[ 1473.164311] gspca: usb_submit_urb [0] err -28
[ 1473.167331] ohci_hcd 0000:00:0b.0: leak ed ffff880037563280 (#81) state 2

cheese would give me a picture, but it was darker than what I was getting when running the 2.6.24-21 kernel and there were several lines moving around on the bottom of the picture.

zoneminder doesn't seem to be working. Before(with kernel 2.6.24-21) I could start zm and the led would come on and if there were motion it would record it. I haven't changed anything in the zm configuration since then. Now the led is on any time that the camera is plugged into the usb port and after I start zm and move around in front of the camera I don't get any events saved.

some more dmesg stuff after starting zoneminder:

[ 1590.106126] gspca: usb_submit_urb [0] err -28
[ 1590.109597] ohci_hcd 0000:00:0b.0: leak ed ffff8800375632d0 (#81) state 2
[ 1590.559087] gspca: usb_submit_urb [0] err -28
[ 1590.562249] ohci_hcd 0000:00:0b.0: leak ed ffff880037563320 (#81) state 2
[ 1595.346574] gspca: usb_submit_urb [0] err -28
[ 1595.349696] ohci_hcd 0000:00:0b.0: leak ed ffff880037563370 (#81) state 2
[ 1605.325577] gspca: usb_submit_urb [0] err -28
[ 1605.329778] ohci_hcd 0000:00:0b.0: leak ed ffff8800375633c0 (#81) state 2

I tried to mark this as "I don't know" for the package because I don't know if it's gspca(which is now in the kernel) or if it's libv4l.(launchpad told me to enter a package name, not letting me pick the "I don't know" option) I don't think it is cheese or zoneminder. Something is wrong from the start when I plug it in and the LED comes on. This shouldn't happen unless the camera is in use.

forgot my lsmod output:

sam@sb-64:~$ lsmod | grep gspca
gspca_spca561 20352 0
gspca_main 34560 1 gspca_spca561
compat_ioctl32 18304 2 gspca_main,bttv
videodev 45184 5 gspca_main,tuner,tvaudio,bttv,compat_ioctl32

I think that is all the relevant modules, let me know if I should do a complete lsmod.

also attaching a snapshot from cheese so you can see the lines, and that it's a little dark.

Is this problem still there with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) Alpha 2 ( http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid/alpha-2/ )? This Ubuntu has Linux kernel version 2.6.32.

You might also try the latest development version from http://linuxtv.org/hg/~jfrancois/gspca/ (see http://www.linuxtv.org/repo/ for instructions).
