Bug Description

gscan2pdf has become unusable for me in trusty. When the program starts there is a slew of error messages like

when is experimental at /usr/share/perl5/Gscan2pdf/Unpaper.pm line 409.

The references are for different files and line numbers.

When the program is trying to connect to the (network) scanner another error is being put out on stderr.

*** unhandled exception in callback:
*** Can't call method "get_active_text" on an undefined value at /usr/share/perl5/Gscan2pdf/Dialog/Scan.pm line 663.
*** ignoring at /usr/bin/gscan2pdf line 3467.
Use of uninitialized value in bitwise and (&) at /usr/share/perl5/Gscan2pdf/Dialog/Scan/CLI.pm line 989.
*** unhandled exception in callback:
*** Can't call method "isa" on an undefined value at /usr/share/perl5/Gscan2pdf/Dialog/Scan/CLI.pm line 1003.
*** ignoring at /usr/share/perl5/Gscan2pdf/Dialog/Scan.pm line 626.

I am not sure if this is at all related to the real problem that the program simply refuses to scan. "Unknown message: scanimage: unrecognized option '--calibration-cache=no'" Sometimes the unrecognized option is a different one, but there always is one and the program does not proceed. Does anybody else experience this? The exact same setup was working fine for me while the laptop was still running precise.

Googling for the error message gives two very old upstream bug entries that are supposedly fixed.

Does this mean you are using v1.2.5?

Please start gscan2pdf from the command line with:

gscan2pdf--log=log

reproduce the problem, quit, and post the log file.
