Bug Description
This can be similar to bug #877278
I have a Dell Latitude E6410 w/docking station, with video output redirected to an external LCD panel. After a clean install of 11.10 and a reboot the screen remain blank, except for the X cursor. If I open Dell's cover and I use the integrated screen, I can see some corruption (the o.s. list can not be read) and finally the lxde spash screen.
Solution: uncomment the line "GRUB_TERMINAL=
