Bug Description

Binary package hint: grub2

I had install ubuntu 10.04 64bit version on my Compaq nx7400 laptop in new HD sata 250GB
on sda1 NTFS win xp
on sda5 had create a 8GB swap (I had 4GB RAM) Logical partition
on sda6 had create / (logical partition)
i had installs grub on sda MBR.
when boot immediately return the "out of disk error" and enter on rescue mode>
i had try insmod normal return "unknown command"
i had try set root=(hd0,6)
linux /vmlinuz root=/dev/sda6 ro (return out of disk)...

please i can't boot linux and win xp also...

Try booting a live CD and mounting your new Ubuntu partition. Does it have no/very little space on it?

That's not what that error means in this context - it means that GRUB
tried to read from a disk offset outside the bounds of the disk.

This release of Ubuntu is no longer receiving maintenance updates. If this is still an issue on a maintained version of Ubuntu please let us know.
