Apparently the grub2 process found a image backup of a prior failed 10.04 upgrade and selected that, ignoring the one required.

10.04 has reached end of life and is no longer supported. If you are still able to reproduce this on a currently supported release, please attach your grub.cfg and describe exactly what happens when you try to boot the other install ( it failed is not an error description ).
