In-place distribution upgrade to 10.04
Installed grub-pc per https:/
Selected MBR of 10.04 (on boot drive) ⋯ /dev/sdb
Restarted and found chain-load to a different partition ⋯ /dev/sdf3 (a separate 10.04 clean install for testing)
Selecting "Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, memtest86+ (on /dev/sdf3)" failed to load any version of 10.04

Apparently the grub2 process found a image backup of a prior failed 10.04 upgrade and selected that, ignoring the one required.
