Bug Description

Binary package hint: grub-pc

On a system installed with wubi, when grub-pc is updated, synaptic asks if I want to continue without installing grub. It shouldn't ask this as most people wouldn't even know what it is or does, and giving the wrong answer could lead to serious trouble with existing bootloaders.

This is not a duplicate of bug 580408 : that one is about the no option not doing anything, this is about the question being showed at all to people who have no clue what to answer.

I fell into this trap out of ignorance or because I wasn't paying enough attention. When I restarted the computer, I couldn't boot either vista or ubuntu. I had to go on another computer and download Windows Vista Recovery Disc from http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/ and burn it to a cd.

I ran bootrec /FixMbr from the prompt and everything was alright again.
