Requested file attached.

I was attempting to install an update/patch to empathy to enable deletion of
prior conversations, which resulted in bug report.

I do not believe it is related, but I also installed software modem drivers,
which appears to have disabled my audio. I have uninstalled drivers and
sound has returned.

Thanks for the file

The error is
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet splash nomodeset acpi_backlight=vendor”
it should be
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset acpi_backlight=vendor"

note the different quotes ” and "

could you please provide the output of
$ debconf-show grub-pc

Do you remember when you first encountered this error and when and how the parameters "nomodeset acpi_backlight=vendor" were added ?
