Bug Description

Binary package hint: grub2

I don't know if this is by design, but my opinion is it shouldn't be.
Grub2 (both 30_os-prober and 10_linux) saves menu entries for linux distros using only the name and kernel version.

So instead of displaying:

Ubuntu 10.04 (or Ubuntu Lucid Lynx), with Linux yada yada

we have

Ubuntu, with Linux yada yada

which is (again, in my opinion) more confusing when you're trying to choose the version you want to boot.

My opinion is we should have the Distro's complete name and version and (maybe!) omit the kernel for the latest one.
All the other OS's are using $LONGNAME for their menu entries, so why not linux?

I don't usually know what kernel version I have in my Distros, but I do know their version numbers.

adding my voice too, as i'm tested several distros, several releases with their stock kernel AND newest too, so the menuentry is very confusing: cant remember which is on /dev/sdx

So an easy way to make a more handy menuentry should be to add the "flag" partition name set by user; its an easier way than having to set custom entries into 40_custom. So please make it doable by default.
