Bug Description

Binary package hint: grub-pc

In /etc/default/grub, use the GRUB_GFXMODE option to set more than one possible resolution, e.g.
   GRUB_GFXMODE="1400x1050;640x480"
Then run "update-grub2" to update /boot/grub/grub.cfg . This creates the line:
  set gfxmode=1400x1050;640x480
which doesn't work. The line should be:
    set gfxmode="1400x1050;640x480"
(notice the quotes).

I know this is an old thread, but it is left unanswered.

Try escaping additional quotes:
GRUB_GFXMODE="\"1400x1050;640x480\""

It will produce extra quotes in grub.cfg:

set gfxmode="1400x1050;640x480"

This is how I got it to work.

Thanks Wolf for the workaround. That worked for me.

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Changed in grub2 (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed
