Bug Description

Hi all,

I have tried to install Ubuntu 12.10 Gnome Remix (stable) from usb-stick. After grub2 has booted I selected try Ubuntu without installing and then I got the following error:

error: file '/casper/vmlinuz.efi.signed' not found
error: you need to load kernel first.

Please press any key to return.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10
Package: grub2 2.00-7ubuntu10
Architecture: amd64
SourcePackage: grub2

Motherboard used: Asus M5A99x EVO (not SecureBoot enabled I believe?)

Kind regards,

Paul Zeiger

The gnome remix is not an official Ubuntu flavor, so you will need to report this problem to its authors.

Philip, I'm reopening this as I believe this is actually a high priority issue for the Release Team to figure out what's not working correctly.

I'm having the same issue. The problem seems to be the grub configuration is pointing to the wrong filename. It's trying to load /casper/vmlinuz.efi.signed which isn't in the disc image. By editing the boot options to use /casper/vmlinuz I was able to boot successfully without modifying the image.

I have no idea what the security implications are for doing this; however, if others want to try you can do the following:

1) Boot to the grub menu
2) Press F2 (I think it was f2, the instructions at the bottom tell you) to edit the boot option
3) modify the section reading /casper/vmlinuz.efi.signed to be /casper/vmlinuz
4) press F10 to boot

Steve.

I deleted the grub2 task as, to the best of my knowledge, this was a configuration bug specific to UGR.

no longer affects: grub2 (Ubuntu)
