grub hidden timeout does not react to shift

When setting grub to hidden timeout, grub wont show the menu via pressing the shift key.

I'm also suffering from this bug. The only difference is that I'm running the 32-bit version.

Effect noticed in 14.04 macbook pro 6,2. This has resulted in an unbootable machine when the display server breaks. My only available fix is to Mount the hard drive in another computer and boot from the cd.
