What happens when you try sudo dpkg --configure -a does it install the kernel packages? or any other that isnt configured yet

Can you please also include /var/log/dist-upgrade/term.log and /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log?

This was most likely a problem with the update-grub script that was fixed for edgy.
