Bug Description

Binary package hint: grub

Hi there,

during a few days off, electric power was taken off resulting in an unespected blackout for my kubuntu karmic PC.
Now, at boot I get a "file not found error" and grub rescue prompt. Trying to issue any command from grub prompt results in a error (free magic or malloc magic is broken) and reboot, back to the very same point.
So I've burned a karmic live CD to re-install grub (as per a few similar cases goggled down): burned CD works fine on other systems while on this PC choosing any of the options ("Try Kubuntu...", "Install Kubuntu", "Check disc...", etc.) only results in a dialog (titled "Boot loader") containing only a word for the option selected ("live", "live-install", etc.) and an Ok button.
Memory test option works!
Boot from first hard disk puts me back to the grub prompt (see top of the message).
Using Ubuntu live CD instead of Kubuntu yelds same results.
I'm stuck in this vicious circle... please help to let me out!

Further details:
- PC is single boot, Kubuntu 9.10 constantly updated and installed from a Kubuntu CD from scratch
- PC has a SATA HD
- PC is an ACER E261 Extensa (Intel CPU), 3 GB RAM

Thanks!

Hi there,

I've re-checked my hardware and due to the abovementioned blackout, a
RAM bank was 'burned'.
Once subbed, my PC has re-booted regularly and restarted working.
Strange the only available option with live CD was MemTest tough...

We can close this bug.
Cheers,
Filippo
