updates to the kernel fail to update menu.lst

Bug Description

The last two updates to the kernel installed correctly but did not show up when I booted until I manually edited /boot/grub/menu.lst. I don't know if the fault lies with grub or synaptic or with my installation which is kubuntu h. h. upgraded to jaunty and with a lot of extra stuff installed.

Not a huge problem, probably, but confusing for new users.
