Ubuntu 8.04, i386, alternate install CD.
I upgraded from Ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04. I used alternate CD, I upgraded from working 7.10 that was was up and running. I inserted CD with 8.04 and upgrade was offered to me and I accepted it. Upgrade took long time but after several hours system was finally upgraded. After reboot I saw updated grub menu and when I selected default option, I met kernel panic after several seconds.
After investigation I found that initrd line was missing in /boot/grub/menu.lst in new records for 8.04
state of menu.lst after upgrade, notice missing initrd line in 2.6.24-16-generic records:

This is a critical bug for new Linux users they cannot recover from my point of view... I am not sure if this bug is in grub package or in other package. |
