Hi, I have a Microsoft Laser Desktop 5000. In Gutsy, the when I boot, Grub does not recognise this keyboard so I cant change or select anything in Grub.

Is that only in Gutsy? Sounds like a problem with the BIOS. Maybe you can try another USB port.

ok, I tried another USB port, its the same thing. What kind of problem with the BIOS? If you give me an idea about what to look for in the bios setup, i can check it. It works pretty good in Gutsy after boot, just not in GRUB. If it was a BIOS problem wouldn't it not work at all?

If you have a PS/2 port and an adapter you could try that also. If the keyboard works in the BIOS setup (before grub starts) it seems to be a problem in grub, yes.

After Gutsy has booted, the kernel talks directly to the USB ports without any BIOS, but grub has to rely on the BIOS for keyboard input.

Did it work fine in Feisty?

The keyboard works during BIOS startup so I can press Delete and ESC for Boot Order and BIOS setup. When it goes into Grub, it stops working and then when it goes to the GDM screen it works again. So it is definitely something to do with the driver loading when grub starts.

It doesnt work with a ps2 adapter and I cant say whether it works in Feisty.

Try enabling Legacy USB Support on the BIOS.

For me the USB keyboard only works in Grub if I enable it.

Your Ubuntu version is EOL. Does this still happen under a supported Ubuntu version? Thank you!
