grub is overwritten so that Windows does not appear on boot list

Bug Description

Whenever there is a major upgrade (kernel upgrade or new version), the grub list gets replaced and overwritten. Users that have Windows as a boot option will not be able anymore to boot into Windows until they manually edit the grub file (sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst) and enter the following:

title Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
root (hd0,0)
savedefault
makeactive
chainloader +1

A newbie cannot be asked to edit the grub menu.lst and I think the upgrades should take this into account.
