Bug Description
When trying to boot the Ubuntu 4.10 (Warty) LiveCD, I receive grub error 17 and cannot boot to the Warty
LiveCD.......And I downloaded the full image of the LiveCD ISO (not a jigdo download)......
However, upon further investigation, this only happens when trying to boot the CD from my NEC 3520A
DVD_RW (IDE) writer.......I also have a Samsung SW-248F CD-R/RW (IDE) writer installed on the same
machine and the Warty LiveCD boots from it just fine.......So this seems to be a device-specific issue
with the grub bootloader, or possibly how the ISO image was made......
I know that when making ISO images, the '-pad' switch should be used (both in mkisofs and cdrecord) for
for best all-around compatibility due to the Linux "read-ahead" bug.........I don't know if this applies
here, but it's worth mentioning.......
Else, using Isolinux to boot to the Grub bootloader, instead of booting with Grub directly, on the LiveCD
might be a possible workaround.....

This problem is fixed in the Hoary live CDs, which now use isolinux rather than
grub. You can download the latest milestone here:
http:// cdimage. ubuntu. com/releases/ hoary/array- 6/
It should work for you.
