bootloader "grub" installer not working on Acer Revo

Bug Description

Installing Ubuntu from scratch on Acer Revo Aspire - Linpus was original OS.
It gets to the end but says it can't install the grub installer boot program in the specified location.
I tried the alternate location given but that didn't work either.
