New kubuntu install on UEFI system , grub install failed on /dev/sda

Dual boot with Windows 7 Ult, booting new install of Kubuntu 22.04 from USB mounted SSD. It ran through the partitioning and was installing, running 'grub-install/dev/sda' and failed at 66%.
