Install of Ubutu 21.10 fails to install GRUB on device/sda

Installer for Ubuntu 21.10 get to installing GRUB and then crashes with the error "Unable to install GRUB to device/sda". The Installation Complete dialog pops up follow shortly by a crash notification.
