Bug Description

Installation of grub-efi-amd64-signed failed during an install of Ubuntu 18.04. This was followed by a crash of the installer. I tried again and it failed at the same place again. /boot and / are on separate partitions, both using EXT4.

Your disk is currently partitioned to boot in bios mode, but you booted the installer in EFI mode. You either need to boot the installer in bios mode, or partition the disk using GPT and set up an EFI system partition to install in EFI mode. This will be done for you if you choose the "use entire disk" guided install option.

Changed in grub-installer (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid

Phillip,

Thanks for the reply. How do I choose which mode to boot up in? This is the first version of Ubuntu to give me this issue. (After sending this error message I installed 16.04 with no issues.)

Thanks again!
Greg

That is specific to each bios, but in my experience it usually means choosing to boot from "USB" instead of "Ubuntu".
