Installation of ubuntu 1804 crashed around the time of installing grub

It said it crashed and the os wouldn't be able to boot.

You try to install Ubuntu in EFI mode, but you do not have an EFI System partition.
But if you have Windows installed on the disk, you should boot the installer in BIOS legacy mode and you will get a working dualboot (no EFI System partition needed).
