You appear to have had some network problems that prevented downloading files during installation. Please try again when your network is working better, or unplug from it entirely.

Confirmed when I was trying to install zesty recently. Can't remember if I chose to download packages during install. Certainly I would not have had wifi set up yet.

Also confirmed by bug 1411670.

If networking problems are causing this then in the least we need better error handling/messages.

Is the fix actually released? grub-efi-amd64-signed still fails to install from the daily Zesty DVD image as of Saturday 25th Feb on my NUC (and FWIW, I asked for updates to be applied during the install process).

Ignore my last comment; I had chosen manual partitioning and it turns out that ubiquity is just extraordinarily unfriendly when it comes to EFI installations. Specifically, it didn't warn me it would completely fail if I didn't create an ESP partition, instead crashing spectacularly and supplying no useful information about what the problem might be ten minutes later when it got round to trying to install grub.
