I believe this was fixed in the latest karmic (alpha 6), or at least I can play it now.

It's still not working here. I ran aptitude update; aptitude install gplanarity; without anything changing.

Did you try resizing the game window? I've realized that in the netbook-remix version it works fine, but in the classic ubuntu desktop it's necessary to change the window size in order to make the game appear.
No idea how to fix it though... but it would be nice to at least find a definite workaround to the problem.

Indeed it can be "fixed" by resizing the window. Strange.

Does not work in the 32-bit release either, reinstallation doesn't help. Resizing solves the problem though.

It took more than an hour to get to the grey box stage at level 334 after an update. (I thought it had crashed the first few times, but System Monitor showed it running flat out the whole time.) Resizing works.

Still present in the latest Lucid build... lucky for us the resizing workaround still works.

Could automate resizing with xdotool. But this is a dirty trick.

or set it up so that a text file is displayed with instructions to resize the window.

or does gplanarity have a config file? change the default window size?

glad i got to this site... big thanks to the guy who found out and posted to resize the window.... else i would have just uninstalled the game and moved on..

I've released a new version with a proper fix. The Debian fix listed in 553500 only accidentally worked, and I do not expect it was reliable. r17906 has a correct fix to the bug (and new translations to boot).
