After the program is launched, the whole system freezes. Save only a hard restart

Does it freeze any other time? When it does freeze, try holding down alt+sysrq and pressing R, E, I, U, S, and finally B, and see if that reboots the system. Also please post the output of sudo parted -l ( that's a lower case L ).
