Away status eventually changes to available

Bug Description

Binary package hint: gossip-telepathy

I set my status in gossip-telepathy to Away, and it sticks for about a minute before "flashing" between Away and Available (the Gossip window and the system tray icon alternating), and then it switches to Available.

This might be bug #75475 and if so, I'm sorry for the duplicate.

Gossip upstream has quit supporting telepathy. Work is going on in the empathy project now. Do you have the problem with empathy (in gutsy)?

This is quite an old bug and this comment might not apply anymore, but in any case that's not a bug, it's a feature of gossip (and empathy), as the gossip developers pointed out when I reported the same issue upstream a while ago:

So I believe that's got nothing to do with telepathy, but rather with the "autoaway" feature of gossip/empathy.
