Thanks for your bug report. Do you have gnumeric-doc installed?

ok, i installed gnumeric-doc and that fixes it.

however its still true that the message is rather unhelpful.

could the gnumeric package contain a /usr/share/gnumeric/1.5.90/doc/C/gnumeric.xml that tells the user:

"You need to install the package gnumeric-doc to read documentaion" and maybe instructions.

Is there any sane reason not to install gnumeric help when gnumeric is installed?

its ~7mb thats about an hours download on dialup.

maybe the answer is to add a gui to gnome-app-install with a check box by all the recomends and suggests for a package, so you can choose if you want them. but i dont imagine that fits in a dapper time frame.

sorry the download size is only 4mb, but still for dialup uses this may be a pain.

tried with feisty. now in feisty it load the ubuntu help center (yelp?) which says

An unknown error occured
The default action does not support this protocol.

does this make it a yelp bug? as yelp should give a useful message if docs are not found.

I get no help files in gutsy (1.7.11-1ubuntu2). When I select Help -> Contents I get the following dialog box:

Unable to load page
The requested URI "ghelp:gnumeric" is invalid

This is the case even after I install the gnumeric-doc package (1.7.11-1ubuntu2).

the help files, once installed, are located at file:///usr/share/gnome/help/gnumeric/C/gnumeric.xml#index

either gnumeric should point there, or the document package should install them under ghelp:gnumeric

First of all, the documentation should definitely be part of the main package, or at least be Recommended.

But even with it installed, it's not working. So what's the workaround? I get "Unable to load page. The request URI "ghelp:gnumeric" is invalid" in the yelp which pops up. I tried to point Konqueror at the XML file, but it can't handle it at all.

(Gutsy amd64, 1.7.11-1ubuntu3)
