Overlay Scrollbars are not present

It is not possible to use toolbars on ubuntu, probably because of the special way of ubuntu to treat toolbars.

Affects Lubuntu 13.04/OpenBox in the same way - no scroll bars. All spreadsheet navigation must be done from keyboard.

As a workaround, you can disable the overlay scrollbars by entering in a terminal screen:

set com.canonical.desktop.interface scrollbar-mode normal

to get the old behaviour back:
gsettings reset com.canonical.desktop.interface scrollbar-mode

If you still don't see scroll bars in gnumeric, then Ensure that the boxes for Horizontal and Vertical scrollbars are ticked in gnumeric's menu: View->View Properties...->Widgets

I appreciate that workaround, but disabling the overlay scroll bars completely just to get gnumeric to scroll at all seems like more negative than positive. Again, it may be useful for testing and gaining an understanding, but I just want to make sure users understand this will do more than just change Gnumeric itself. Thanks!

I have tried Tino's workaround. It has no effect for me. Still no scrollbars.

I agree, switch off overlay scrollbars is not a (temporary) solution. I would like to use it in other applications.
I have touch screen and it would be good if i could use it in gnumeric, like eg. in gedit or evince or naulilus.

With this workaround I can get the traditional scrollbar in gnumeric (no restart needed), but it is not a real solution.

Still no scrollbars in Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr).
