I can confirm this bug.
gnome-dictionary fails to look up entries, there is no output in the terminal.

Hi John,
could you please check if your dictionary is working again? It seems that dict.org was down for a few days.

Alexander,

I'm still not getting any definitions via the app. I'm now getting this msg after entering word for look-up.

 * Error while looking up definition

 * Connection failed to the dictionary server at dict.org:2628

If dict.org is still down it's their problem, if not, something in the app. is keeping the connection from completing.

Let me know if you need any other info.

Same here:
* Connection failed to the dictionary server at dict.org:2628

I will set this bug to confirmed.

In my opinion there should be something like a fall back solution if dict.org cannot be reached. This could be a different website or an off-line dictionary like I think I remember in much earlier versions.

status: Incomplete → Confirmed

This is actually a problem with dict.org and we cannot blame gnome-dictionary for this.

Hi John, in oder to get your dictionary working off-line you could follow these instructions:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-utils/+bug/19227/comments/2

Bug #19227 is a wishlist bug requesting default off-line usage.
This bug is different as it would merely request a fallback option (online and/or off-line).

Alexander,

As of today, the dictionary app. is working. dict.org must be back up and working now. Thanks for the above work-around.
If I have any further problems I may have to try it as I use this app. on a daily basis.

Thanks
