Can't read many of the log files via log file viewer

Bug Description
When I click on System > administration > log file viewer, I get this message:
Could not open the following files:
/var/log/
/var/log/
/var/log/cron: Error stating file '/var/log/cron': No such file or directory
/var/log/maillog: Error stating file '/var/log/maillog': No such file or directory
/var/log/secure: Error stating file '/var/log/secure': No such file or directory
/var/log/sys.log: Error stating file '/var/log/sys.log': No such file or directory
The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' : Description: Ubuntu jaunty (development branch) Release: 9.04
