I've noticed a condition for this bug on my system. It only happens when the terminal window is vertically maximized.

Steps to reproduce:

1. open terminal
2. vertically maximize
3. resize horizontally (drag window edge)

Expected behaviour:

- terminal window resizes (contents re-flow live)

Actual behaviour:

- window manager becomes unresponsive for 10-60 seconds

Distro: Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
gnome-terminal: 3.18.3-1ubuntu1
