refresh problem after using top or less (probably other commands too)

Bug Description

I'm not entirely sure how to reproduce the bug but I'm reporting it anyway because it is annoying.

It appears to be a refresh problem but it doesn't seem to happen all the time and it seems to happen at random.

When the shell is in this refresh problem state, all I have to do is run "top" and then quit from top. Normally, I should be placed back at the prompt and I'm ready to go again. However, during this time, the cursor moves to where the prompt should be and I see it blinking but the screen has not refreshed. I can press enter and the prompt will show up, but typing a command and pressing enter does nothing.

I tried to take a screen shot but pressing "print screen" also refreshes the shell.

I installed ubuntu 11.10 on a DELL Latitude E6410 i7 cpu (much newer hardware than the Lenovo t-61 I originally reported the bug on). It has the same behavior.

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner.

Ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric) reached end-of-life on May 9, 2013.

Do you still see a problem related to the one that you reported in a currently supported version of Ubuntu? Please let us know if you do and in which version otherwise this report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days time.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.
