To be more precise, I've been having another scrolling problem on other applications. When scrolling on xterm and gnome editor with page up and page down, sometimes a rectangle inside the window is not redrawn. In xterm, that rectangle stays black and in gedit, the text is not correctly updated. In both cases, a manual refresh is required to fix the problem.

Not sure if it is same, but am having scrolling glitches similar to this, with similar work-around (ie. refresh cures it) using Unity 3D. Problem goes away with Unity 2D. Problem manifests with all applications tried that produce scroll-able window, also Chrome and Firefox browsers. My system is an HP NC6000 laptop. When glitch occurs, sometimes a rectangle is not redrawn, sometimes the shape is a torn rectangle (ie. portion of rectangle got shifted up, portion not shifted, in middle of window).

Confirmed that problem goes away on unity 2D. Problem happens on utity and gnome shell.

I can confirm the same redraw issues with gnome-terminal using gnome-shell. It's difficult to capture as taking a screenshot seems to trigger a redraw.

It only seems to happen when output would also trigger a scroll, but is not reliably reproducable so can't comfirm.

I too am using non-free nvidia drivers on amd64.

I have same issue. nVidia proprietary driver and G105M card
It can't depend to Unity, it is possible reproduce with Mint12
It looks like some problem with 3D accelerator.
It is NOT reproducible in "terminator"
Easiest way to reproduce:
"man" ---- use pgup/pgdown
"mc" ---- pres Ctrl+O few times or open "mcedit"
