Bug Description

I'm using kde, but I prefer the gnome-terminal, because I'm using some features which the konsole does not offer. Under kde, the gnome-terminal behaves a bit strange.

When starting the gnome-terminal under kwin, the window sizes down to one single line hight.

When activating or deactivating the menu (F12), the window sizes down to minimum width and height.

When I resize the window, the cursor freezes and the window contents stop updating, e.g. text does not appear when I'm typing. After dragging the window by grabbing the title bar with the mouse, the cursor will blink again and the contents will be updated.

I tried to force gnome-terminal windows to open in a certain size via kcmshell4, but this had no helpful effect. The gnome-terminal first opened in the desired size, but then rapidly changed size to a single line again.

There are also some redraw problems, when parts of a gnome-terminal have been hidden and are brought into foreground again, but these problems appear randomly: the hidden parts are being redrawn when I move the windows.

You can work around this problem in KDE by going to System Settings -> Window Behavior -> Window Rules. Add a new rule called "Gnome-terminal workaround" which sets "Obey geometry restrictions" to "Force No". See the screenshots here:
