system bell missing in gnome terminal

Bug Description

Neither "echo -e '\a'" nor any of the usual actions produce any sound in GNOME terminal. Please return the system bell or provide an adequate substitution. No sound is not an option! ("beep" makes a noise, so pcspkr and alsmaixer are fine.)
