Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Since the last update, can't change transparency of background in terminal window by editing profile. Background remains slightly transparent (probably 90% opaque), with the slider for transparency causing no changes.

this bug seems intermittent. after 2 restarts was still present, but after a 3rd seems to have resolved?

What were your background settings before the upgrade yesterday?

Transparent background selected, slider about 1/3 from the left 'none'

Ok, I think I understand why you saw that behaviour then. The behaviour you saw would have disappeared the first time you select "Solid"

I also spotted this today. I was using a full screen terminal (less distracting) and I wanted to make the terminal have a solid colour background. I edited the profile and changed the background to Solid Colour, but the terminal background is still very slightly transparent, enough to still see the windows and desktop behind it.

It seems this might be something to do with the new Ambiance and Radiance themes. If I switch to the Clearlooks theme, the terminal background is properly solid with no transparency when Solid Colour is selected, which is the expected behaviour.

That isn’t the whole story. If I switch to the Clearlooks theme, but I _want_ to use a transparent background, I can’t do it anymore. I can only get a transparent background if I select one of the new themes!

That's weird. I have just tried configuring the terminal to use a transparent background when using the Clearlooks theme and it works as expected for me.

I have this issue also, with my problem being identical to Anders Kaseorg's.

This problem has something to do with compiz. I by default had compiz on, and I have this problem. Then I turned compiz off, and I was able to get the desired transparency. When I turned compiz back on, I could again get the transparency, so I can no longer reproduce the problem.

Exactly the same here: with clearlooks, no problem. With ambient, all my terminals get transparency, regardless of the settings (?).

I use compiz.

Although I'm running x86-64 when I select transparent background and move the slider it stays a solid white color, but if I put it to background image file it becomes transparent and responds to the slider. I'm using compiz too.

I'm having a similar issue after upgrading to 10.04. Selecting "Solid color" gives me a transparent background, selecting "Background image" makes the background solid, and selecting "Transparent background" with the slider set to "minimum" gives the maximum transparency, and vice versa. This happens no matter what built-in color theme I select.

I'm on Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64 also using Compiz. With the Ambiance theme I get transparency, however if I switch back to my preferred theme, New Wave, there is no transparency and setting transparency has no effect.
