Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Both
/usr/share/applications/xfce4-terminal.desktop
and
/usr/share/applications/gnome-terminal.desktop
have the following:
"Name=Terminal"
"Icon=utilities-terminal"

Thus, on a Ubuntu system having both GNOME and XFCE, the menu Applications->Accessories will show "Terminal" twice, with the same icon, and it's impossible to know which is which.

(Hint: The GNOME one has the tooltip: "Use the command line", the XFCE one has the tooltip "Terminal Emulator".)

As XFCE's Terminal is labeled "Terminal" in the About box, I suppose it bears the correct name. Thus, GNOME Terminal should have the Name="GNOME Terminal" or "Terminal Emulator".

Gnome Terminal is the terminal application shipped by default on Ubuntu, why we should change the name of it? xfce should probably do it not gnome-terminal. closing this as wont fix.

Pedro, you have no reason.

"GNOME Terminal" has indeed this name AS SHOWN IN THE ABOUT BOX, but shows in the menu as "Terminal". Changing this to "GNOME Terminal" WOULD NOT CHANGE ITS NAME!

XFCE's Terminal has the name "Terminal" (AS SHOWN IN THE ABOUT BOX) and shows as "Terminal" in the menus, which is correct!

Unless you're <self-censored-deprecatory-word>, your comment lacks logic.

I run both GNOME and Xfce and I manually renamed each terminal in the Accessories menu to "GNOME Terminal" and "Xfce Terminal" respectively. After all this is what they are and there is no reason why one or another should prevail and remain just a "Terminal". Labels of both should be updated.

There is also xterm which is present regardless of what one is running GNOME, KDE, Xfce. xterm for that matter is even better candidate to be named as just "Terminal".
