Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Since installing Jaunty, I'm frequently getting text pasted twice when using the middle mouse button to paste into the terminal.. I've tried this many times now, what amounts to a single click.

Experimenting briefly it seems to generate multiple paste if the button it held suppressed for a while, so likely no limit just a recurring find that the button it pressed?? I've looked for an option to reduce sensitivity etc but can't see anything that changes this.

Workaround is to use the right-click paste option but it's not as handy.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Also, please answer these questions:
* Is this reproducible?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
* May you test the same with a new user created on your system?
* Are you getting this only with gnome-terminal? Could you try the same with gedit and terminator?

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem and resolving this bug.

Yes - reproducible.

Stupidly, I'd not thought to try outside terminal but yes it's happening in gedit too.

One new thing.. again every time.. copying within the terminal or within gedit the middle mouse doesn't paste. It's seems to be only from input the like of firefox, or email text that's doing this. That difference might be some polymorphic issue??.. that is, it seems copying plain text only is not pasting anything.

Not sure how a dud mouse would cause this.. and hadn't noticed it in 8.10.

Rethinking the above.. the pasting occurs only if the terminal is already open. Opening one after copying doesn't work but that might be a normal function in Ubuntu?..

So, back one step.. it's reproducible, happening in new users as well; in terminal, gedit, terminator. It just seems the mouse is acting overly sensitive.

Trying now to alter slightly the timing of the single click gives mostly two, occasionally three pastes. Holding it down can spawn endless pastes but only it seems after some slight pause. I don't know if that is designed in and the first paste it still the issue or if I just need a new mouse?? Maybe it is just me with this?

Same happens to me in 14.04 64bits (and was also happening in former versions).

As the others reported I can confirm that this happens since years in Ubuntu. I currently using 14.04 x64 but it happened in 12.04 x64, too.

In my case the multiple paste occurs sometimes NOT.
It means when I use it to paste the first 2 or 3 or 4 times I get the multiple pastes but after that I get it once as suggested.

his is really annoying and I wondering why so less people reporting on this. Well maybe it is the same reason why I waited until today ;o)

hope that a merciful dev trying to fix that.. (*fingers crossed*)

one thing to add: it happens in other terminals like "terminator" too. same for editors etc so it is definitively not application related

as this is not application related I changed to gnome-shell instead

This issue also applies to Ubuntu 17.10. Double pasting from the scroll wheel on the mouse occurs most of the time, but not all the time. Double pasting occurs when pasting into RT, and when pasting into Alpine.
