gnome-terminal unresponsive behavior in maximized or full screen mode

Ubuntu 7.10, gnome-terminal 2.18.2, compiz (does NOT happen with metacity --replace).

When in maximized or full screen mode, gnome-terminal becomes unresponsive to keyboard shortcuts. For example, I've bound Ctrl + T to new tab and Ctrl + W to close tab. When I use these shortcuts nothing appears to happen...that is, until I click on the gnome-terminal window. Once I've clicked on the window all of the tabs will appear (or disappear as the case may be). This appears to be a problem with the gnome-terminal window not getting updated properly while in the background. It looks like things work fine when I'm running metacity. Note that I have a dual screen setup, I can post my xorg.conf if necessary.

I have the same problem. This only appeared in gutsy (feisty + compiz was ok). It's a really annoying bug, i have to press alt-TAB twice after pressing ctrl-T.

I've stopped using compiz entirely as a result of this (and other compiz
related bugs). Out of curiosity, do you use multiple displays? I'm
wondering if the problem is related to Nvidia's TwinView, or something
more subtle.

I use a Dell D620 notebook, intel 945GM display controller, with default drivers. I don't use multiple displays.

This problem still exists in Ubuntu 8.04 beta. Again, it only happens with the default visual appearance extras (compiz, I guess) but not metacity. This has been an issue for almost 4 months without any official acknowledgment. What gives? What additional details would be helpful?

Yes, it looks like 8.04 fixed it! Now I can use compiz.
